PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS!  If you missed this year's race, you missed one heck of a great event.  Well, they say you can't win them all and for whatever reason, we didn't win this one and it's really too bad.  Those wonderful folks at Dollars for Scholars pulled out all the stops and had some FANTASTIC door prizes: Costco gift cards worth $25 (that was more than the entry fee), Blockbuster gift cards, some great toys for the kids and the Grand Prize of a 2 night get away to the Harrison Hot Springs Resort in Harrison, BC.

With all the hard work and effort Dollars for Scholars put into the event, it was a little bit disappointing that we only had nine (9) 10k runners and twenty-six (26) 5k runners & walkers - did you catch that?  We only had 35 total participants.  I guess the good news is that if you showed up for the race you were almost guaranteed to get a trophy or ribbon.  Some of the categories didn't have a single participant and the 10k run had only one female.  If you wanted a shot at a trophy, this was the event you should have been at.

But, that's the bad news and fortunately we runners don't focus on failures, we focus on success.  There were several triumphs which are very worthy of celebrating.  First, and most importantly, we raised $710 for some worthy high-school graduate to help them with their post graduation plans.  College & trade schools are pretty expensive these days and every dollar helps (that's why we do these events - to help worthy causes - and to enjoy our sport too).  Second, we did the timing for the event ourselves.  In the past, we've been very blessed to have Race Directions do the timing of the race - and they're very good, very professional.  Although we have enjoyed the help of Race Directions, we felt like we could do a great job if we purchased our own timing equipment and timed the event ourselves.  As it turned out, the light showing of runners was a benefit as Murphy's law ruled on Saturday.  Both the 5k & 10k printers failed so we had to do a lot more "running" between the timers and those recording the race results. But, having our own timing equipment paid off because we were able to donate more money to Dollars for Scholars.  If we missed you this year, we hope to see you next year ... or better yet next year AND the River & Rails Run on August 2nd.

Mark your calendar for August 2, 2008 at 9:00am for the 3rd Annual River & Rails Run benefiting Cocoon House.  This is a popular course which begins near the Stillaguamish River at Haller Park and proceeds down the Centennial Trail to a turn around at the halfway point of the 5k run/walk course and near the west entrance to Gleneagle as the turnaround point for the 10k run.

If you're a serious runner, you're going to love our events!  We're not just people who put on race events we are actually runners (or at least a runner wanna-be). Our founder, Greg Woodman & Treasurer, Will Miller just completed the Boston Marathon, so we know what needs to happen to have a successful event and we want to attract more runners so we're serious about putting on a great event. We know that accuracy is important to you so we go the extra mile, or 1,609.34 meters, to make sure our course is the right distance.  So when you run OUR 5k course you are truly running a 5k course. If you want a 10k course we'll give it to you.  If you pre-register, and we highly recommend pre-registering, when you show up your race bib, race event shirt (in the right size) and everything will be in a bag labeled with your name (arranged in alphabetical order) so all you have to do is grab your bag and get ready to run.  We also have miles markers, a 6 inch high-visibility timing clock at the finish line, water stations along the course, age-bracketed awards, kid's dash events for the youngsters, timers and backup timers so you won't have to guess or self-time your run, race results posted online so you can see how you compared & much more.  If you haven't participated at one of our events, please join us on August 2nd.  If you have comments, we want to hear what you have to say so we can get better - send an email (See Below).
